Before we could start kindergarten, everyone had to take a placement test. My dad took me and they asked a bunch of questions. The following exchange shows my innate personality:

Teacher: “Name something that floats”

My 5 year old self says: “Apples”

Teacher: “No. I’m sorry that’s wrong. A correct answer would have been ‘boat’ or even ‘wood’.”

My dad: “Excuse me” (always the gentleman) “Haven’t you ever been bobbing for apples? Apples absolutely float.”

Since then, apples have always had a special place in my mind. They represent thinking outside the box. Ignoring the conventional; thinking for yourself. Gaining a new perspective. Thinking differently.

That is my design aesthetic and sensibility. It’s how I live life.
